10 Super-Simple Decor DIYs for Fall

October 16, 2019

Autumn has arrived, and with it changing leaves, trips to the pumpkin patch, and all the freshly harvested apples you can eat. If you want your decor to reflect the new season, try one or two of these easy DIY projects.

  1. Pumpkin Mason jars. Transform standard Mason jars (or really any jar) into a cute pumpkin candy dish by simply painting it orange, adding card stock leaves, and tying everything up with a few spirals of patterned paper.

  2. Pine cone wreath. Give your pine cones a makeover by dipping their tips in different shades of bright paint—try colors inspired by the autumn leaves. Then affix them to a wreath form and add a burlap ribbon before hanging the wreath on your front door.

  3. Falling leaves garland. Interested in something a little glitzier? This tutorial shows you how to transform fallen leaves using glitter, and then string them on a garland that you can hang up or drape just about anywhere.

  4. Sweater pillow sham. If you have any old autumn sweaters that are a little worse for the wear, don’t donate them just yet. You can upcycle them into a new sham for your throw pillows in just a few simple steps.

  5. Apple candle holders. Apple candle holders will only last as long as the apple, but they’re great for a dinner party or another special event. Simply carve out the core of your favorite fall apple, leaving a space big enough for a tea light, and ignite the wick.

  6. Chevron pumpkins. Instead of carving a pumpkin this year, break out the paint and embellish it with a pretty pattern. Try chevron in your favorite autumn colors.

  7. Burlap table runner. Transform a simple strip of burlap into an integral piece of your autumn tablescape by painting polka dots or another design onto the fabric, then adding tassels at either end.

  8. Cinnamon stick candle. Wrap a glass votive and a candle in a cozy layer of cinnamon sticks, secure them with twine, and let the warm scent of cinnamon waft across your apartment all autumn long.

  9. Twine-wrapped pumpkin. Take a simple styrofoam pumpkin from the dollar store and make it into a masterpiece by swaddling the entire thing in twine, then adding a burlap leaf and a bow.

  10. Fall lantern. You know those empty lanterns you see at the craft store? This is the perfect time of year to fill them up with mini pumpkins, pine cones, berry sprigs, and anything else that reminds you of fall, then put them on display in your home.
